Reinvent

How many times have you come up with a brilliant, million-dollar idea only to hear (or say to yourself), “Oh, so-and-so already did that.”

Stop doing that.

History is littered with examples of people coming to the party late, executing better, and eventually eating the incumbent’s lunch. Take, for example, Google. What do you think the world would look like today if Larry and Sergey had said to themselves, “Well, this Pagerank thing is cool and all, but Altavista and Yahoo have already done search.  Guess we’re too late.” What about Linus? Don’t even get me started on Facebook.

Just because someone is already doing something doesn’t mean you can’t eat their lunch.  You just have to do it better.  Then keep your eyes in the rear-view.

That’s beautiful, man. I’m inspired. You should join toastmasters.
